The replacement merry-go-round, called a We-Go-Round, will be fully accessible. It will have seating for children who do not use wheelchairs as well as leaving ample room for wheelchairs that can be easily rolled on and secured. The We-Go-Round is designed with fun and safety in mind. It includes strategic seating with ample room for wheelchairs, a rooftop shade that provides shelter from the sun, and handles inside and outside that are used to propel the carousel and help keep it at a reasonable maximum speed.
Original Merry-Go-Round in 2005. Although bright and colorful, it was not accessible to individuals with disabilities.
Jonnie, unable to get on it with a wheelchair, had to have someone assist him.
Today, the original Merry-Go-Round is blocked off, unsafe, and unusable.
